Healthy Apple Dessert: Homemade With No Sugar

Sharing is caring!

Jump to Recipe

Healthy Apple Dessert is a name that I have made up, actually the name of this dessert should be no butter, no sugar apple dessert, but that would be too long. I prepared this for Valentine. It cannot get easier and more practical. You can prepare as much as you want, 2 apples 4 apples or 12 apples. It just depends how many you want to serve.

Preparation for this dessert is just peeling and coring the apples. After the first one you get faster with the coring too. I used hibiscus for colouring, you can buy it on the web, in big markets and in speciality, organic produce shops. Using 1 flower for each apple will be enough.

I used raisins to avoid adding sugar and the result was just perfect, I am so happy that I did not use sugar at all. Cloves add a nice flavor.

I added a scoop of vanilla ice cream, I am pretty sure adding cream or clotted cream options will also be good if you prefer.

Happy Valentine everyone.

PS: I could not manage to take a photo myself this time, so borrowing the photo from soframdan.com for the moment.

Ingredients

  • 4 apples
  • 4 hibiscus
  • 1 tablespoon raisins
  • 4 cloves
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon to garnish
  • 4 tablespoons vanilla ice cream as a side

Instructions

  • Peel the apples and take out the seeds using an apple corer or a peeler.
  • Fill the holes with raisins.
  • On the top of each hole stick a hibiscus.
  • Place each apple into a pot large enough to have all the apples in at a level and not one on top of the other.
  • Fill the pot with water to reach half way of the apples.
  • Toss in 4-5 cloves.
  • Start cooking over medium heat, lower the heat if it gets too bubbly.
  • Cook for 45 minutes. Turn around the apples to make sure all sides turn red.
  • Remove from heat – when whichever is first, you see the apples are getting to soft and crumbling or when the time is up.
  • Take out the apples and put into a serving plate. Discard the cloves and the hibiscus.
  • Pour the sauce over the apples or on the side to decorate. Also sprinkle cinnamon if you like on the plate for garnish. Serving with a tablespoon of ice cream will be a good option.
