A: How To Start A Blog; 1, 2, 3

Sharing is caring!

When I first started giving cooking lessons my best friend suggested that I should start a blog too. At first it seemed like something so far away for me. Then here is my blog; if you like it you can find all the details about how I made it come true without any previous technical knowledge.

I am using Bluehost for hosting services. I am very happy with their support. They have saved and kept me on track so many times, I do not think that I will leave them as long as I keep my blog alive.

This is an honest referral as I use the products and I am happy with them, but I must add that I will get commissions for purchases made through this link in this post.

Not being a technical person, I had to read a lot, try a lot. There is perhaps too much on the web, there are many wonderful, helpful people, posts, but also many others that are such a waste of time. I will give links to the sites I benefited and applied here in my own blog.

So you are feeling that you are ready to start a blog. You have plenty to share with your readers and you notice there is a gap in the internet you can fill with your recipes and ideas.

Why wait any longer, it is not a diet to postpone:) Here is how!

You will be surprised how easy it is to start.

You will regret for not having started earlier.

1. Deciding on Domain Name

This is challenging. Think/write down your ideas, check with friends and family, browse on the internet to see what others are doing, have ready several alternatives. I have started with TurkishYummies.com and later moved to QuickandTastyFood.com.

2. Deciding on Hosting

I decided on Bluehost from day one. Because they are well-established, 24/7 friendly and understanding support, coverage, security and prices.

So you start with going to the Bluehost website and registering.

(1) Welcome to Bluehost-min

You will need to make a choice of hosting plan. I had started with the basic. The list gives all the necessary details, choose which ever meets your needs.

Then move on to registering your domain. If the domain has been already taken Bluehost will help you with alternatives.

Obviously you will need to enter your account information. If you are not from USA do not worry, the form still works. I was in Istanbul the first time I have filled it.

Unfortunately quality hosting is not free. So you will need to enter your payment information.

You will be provided with several extra packages. I use Domain Privacy Protection.

Now that you are done with the payment part, you are ready to create a password related to your domain name. I suggest assign a password that will bring you luck and happiness.

You are all set with hosting and domain name. Well done!

3. Installing WordPress

Now you will need to create a blog to fill up your domain name. There are again plenty of alternatives to use. I preferred WordPress again from the start as it is well established, with good reputation and loads of documentation and not to forget a good support team again. WordPress comes with Bluehost so that is a great bonus too. Just login to your Bluehost account to start with.

Then all you need to is answer a few questions, as seen below:

Then you will be asked to pick a theme. Scroll around and pick one you feel good about. You can change in time with not much effort. If you are new to blogging I suggest go for a free WordPress theme.

That is it. You now have a domain, hosting and a blog.

Now you will be working on WordPress dashboard for feeding your content and increasing your readings and potentially selling your products and increasing your readers.

Start with choosing a theme. Choose a theme that is responsive which means that it will adjust its size according to the screen of the user – either it be a phone, desktop or laptop. I used Twenty Twenty for along time and then moved to Blossom Recipe Pro theme and currently using Generate Press Premium. Both themes provided real-time customization for you to work on as you like.

It is definitely a worthwhile journey. You will discover to make your own blog, and have a unique place on the web designed by yourself with the help of Bluehost and WordPress.

I hope this has been useful. Please comment below if you have any questions.
